About
For centuries, East African merchants used to sail to the East to trade spices, ivory, and gold. On their return, among other things they would also haul various teas back with them. This route eventually came to be known as the Spice Trade. During that time the East African artisans crafted various delicious ways to enjoy a cup of chai moto (Hot Tea) by blending local spices and herbs such as lemongrass, vanilla, cinnamon, and ginger.
We call ourselves Chai Moto because we accentuate a hands-on brilliance of all aspects of tea blending. From carefully sourcing the best quality of teas and spices to blending and crafting a fine cup of tea. We went back to a time when the art of blending and crafting tea was synonymous with passion, patience, and pride.
This is a commitment we took by giving credence and appreciation to the brave sailors and artisans who took great pride in their craft. Our reason for being is to share our tea in ways that nurture and sustain positive energy and help forge meaningful relationships.
